Learn how a young man risked his life to save a dog

The whole thing happened in the area of Punta Negra, a town south of Lima. A dog was dragged from the Huaycoloro and Rimac rivers. The poor dog stayed locked in a “huaico”.

A huaico is a flood of mud water. It is a local term from the Quechua language.

A young man did not hesitate for a moment. No effort was too great for him to save the  small, frightened animal from the mud. He could get it on safe ground. His heroic deed was watched by the local residents.

An anonymous hero who did not hesitate to save a dog from certain death

A rescue team had previously tried to help the dog. But the animal kept moving into the mud because it was very afraid. The operation was therefore canceled.

But then the anonymous hero came to the rescue. The young man risked his life and managed to save the dog from the Huaico.

The pictures were taken by a television station that reported on the natural disaster. If you want to see how the young man saves the dog, you can watch the video here.

Animals that are silent victims of natural disasters

The “El Niño” phenomenon has been noticeable in Peru and Ecuador since mid-January 2017. On Peruvian territory, the northern and central areas of the country are particularly affected by rain, mudslides and floods.

At the end of March there were already 98 deaths, almost 900,000 people were affected and there were great losses for agriculture and livestock.

However, in statistics that are used to describe natural disasters or war-related damage, animals are often invisible victims.

That is why it is important to highlight the gesture of the young man who saved a dog from almost certain death.

Stories of pets and earthquakes

Natural disasters not only have devastating consequences for humans, many animals also suffer from them.

We keep hearing stories like these that caught earthquakes in Ecuador and Italy:

  • Dogs that endured under rubble for days until they could be rescued.
  • A dog that did not want to part with its owner’s coffin, who died in the earthquake.
  • Another dog who refused to leave his home that was completely destroyed.

In this context, it is also important to highlight the great achievements of various organizations in rescuing injured and frightened animals in natural disasters.

Other “heroes” to remember

Finally, we would like to briefly remind you of other heroes who, like the young Peruvian man, had no doubts about saving an animal:

  • An Iranian soldier lost a leg trying to save a dog caught in barbed wire in a minefield.
  • The young British woman who rescued a dog from a frozen lake. The thin layer of ice had collapsed and the dog fell into the water.
  • Unidentified heroes who break a car window to save a pet from certain heat death.

Today we would like to thank all of these heroes who use their lives to save lives. Animals also  help us humans in numerous situations and only deserve the best!
