Woman Rescues And Adopts Baby Elephant
Many do not have pets due to lack of space, but our story about a baby elephant today shows that there are always possibilities! This amazing story of Moyo also became known through social networks.
The wonderful story of Moyo, the baby elephant
The baby elephant Moyo almost died while it was in a river with its herd. It got carried away by the river and separated from its family.
Fortunately, Moyo was saved by the founder of the Reserve Wild is Life, Roxy Danckwerts, who adopted the baby elephant. Moyo now accompanies them on all routes, including household chores, and tries to help as much as possible.
At first it wasn’t that difficult, because Moyo was still small and could move around the reserve well, but a year later it’s not that easy anymore. Moyo is big now, but still wants to follow his “mother” everywhere, but that is getting more and more difficult.
Coexistence is chaotic, objects break and patience is put to the test every day. But the mutual love between human “mother” and elephant knows no boundaries.
Moyo weighed over 100 kg at birth. Although he has adapted wonderfully to his new life, he will need more space for himself, no matter how great the love is.
Caring for a baby elephant
Elephants require very special care, certain foods and an enormous amount of water (up to 200 L daily), especially in hot temperatures.
Feeding a baby elephant
The best way to feed a baby elephant is to use a large bottle with a mixture of low-fat milk and coconut oil. Initially, the baby elephant has to be fed every three hours, but over time, three daily feedings are enough. The baby elephant eats more and more plants. It takes milk for three years and coconut oil for five years.
A baby elephant needs a lot of attention, contact and tenderness. You always have to be there for it, give it water, play with it and fight with it lovingly and playfully, etc.
At night, it is advisable to protect the baby elephant with a large, rough blanket that is similar to the mother’s skin. It is good to sleep with the animal up to the age of two.
Socialization is also very important: the baby elephant has to learn to communicate with other members of its own species. Wild elephant hordes usually accept strange baby elephants very well, because they are very sociable animals.
