1. The dog wants to get to know you

Although the sense of smell is the most developed sense in dogs, four-legged friends also learn a lot about other living beings and objects through their taste. This is probably the most logical explanation why our dogs lick us off.

When they lick our faces with their tongues, they are just trying to get to know us. Because our individual taste conveys two very important things: our mood and our state of health.

2. To show us their love

You can compare licking a dog to a kiss or a caress. Dogs show their appreciation and love for people with their tongue.

You should know that your four-legged friend never has bad intentions when he licks your face or your mouth. He just wants to tell you that he loves you. He wants to thank you for your care or show you how happy he is by your side.

3. To greet us

Your dog may like the skin care products you use  and therefore lick you off. Some dogs love a fruity aroma! But the smell of sweat is also inspected,  because dogs also love the salty taste.

5. To draw attention to yourself

Your dog can get your attention by licking. For example, when he wants to play, when you are watching TV, when you are eating and he also wants something to eat when you have made yourself comfortable on the sofa and he tries to sit on your lap …

6. To reduce feelings of fear

Licking its owner, toys, basket, or itself could be one of the dog’s methods of calming itself down. 7. To express their submission
