There are countless stories where a dog to the lifesaver of a human being. Their instinct has already guided the animals in many dangerous situations in order to save human lives. Often they put their own lives at risk. Dogs are used in many rescue operations and the success rate in these operations is very high.

A resident of Seville, who threatened to drown in the port of Malaga, owes his life to the incessant barking of a dog, which caused its owner to approach the scene. There he found a man floating in the water. He immediately alerted the port police and the ambulance.

The person in the water was a man over 60 who suffered multiple injuries from the incident and was hospitalized to recover. After they pulled him out of the water, the port police rescue workers had to dry him with blankets and put him in their emergency vehicle, where they turned the heating on to the highest level to rewarm the man’s body.

Nanook’s feat

As every morning, Nanook, a one year old, chocolate brown Labrador, took a walk with his owners Alba and Jose Ignacio at around 7:30 am at Dock No. 1 at the port of Malaga. Nanook is a very calm and obedient dog who, due to his age, likes to play. 

On the way back  , the dog suddenly began to bark incessantly, which is very unusual for him, especially because hardly anyone is around in the early morning hours. Since the dog didn’t stop barking and harassing its owner, the latter finally decided to follow his four-legged friend and could finally hear the older man’s cries for help in the water from afar. Jose Igancio tried to calm the man down and immediately alerted the rescue workers.

At the scene of the event, emergency services from the Guardia Civil and the port police arrived together with dock workers and other citizens from Málaga. During the entire rescue work , Nanook waited and watched nervously what was going on around him. When the man was finally rescued and the paramedics arrived, the dog, satisfied with what he had done, was able to return home as it did every day.

Using dogs can save your life

In most cases where a dog for life-saver is a man who is animals not trained for rescue operations were and save unknown people. To date, several studies have failed to provide meaningful data on the reasons why dogs become lifesavers in some situations.

The researchers cannot yet say with certainty whether dogs act out of an inner motivation and become people’s lifesavers or whether they simply follow a certain behavior pattern through training and conditioning in certain situations.

By nature, dogs have a special motivation to help people – including strangers. The most important thing is that the dog realizes that we need his help.

It is important to recall the origins of the dog and its ancestry from the wolf, that is, life in the pack, where the animals support each other, and the mutual coordination, vigilance and protection of all pack members are paramount.

As soon as a dog regards its human family as members of its pack, this instinct comes to the fore at threatening or delicate moments.

As we can see, our dogs have a keen sense of teamwork and are interested in the wellbeing of everyone. Although many people believe in the loyalty and love of dogs for humans in general, situations in which dogs become human lifesavers are more likely to be due to the dog’s predisposition to be part of a group and the urge to be members of that group to protect, attributed.
