Today we would like to tell you about animal care on the other side of the world. An institute is planned in Mexico City to take care of stray animals.
Mexico City plans animal care institute

At a legislative meeting in Mexico City , plans were presented for an initiative to establish an institute for animal care. The initiative was started by members of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) in order to generate important strategies that guarantee animal rights.

Mexico City: primary goals of the Institute for Animal Care

One of the tasks of the institute, which focuses on combating ill-treatment in various forms, is to run a count to find out how many pets there are in Mexico City .

Furthermore, the Institute for Animal Care would like to:

  • The regulations on animal husbandry update
  • protect abandoned animals,
  • Run campaigns for sterilization and vaccination ,
  • Perform verifications in stores that sell animals
  • make the population aware of the care animals deserve and need,
  • Make pet owners aware of their responsibilities and
  • Teach government officials and citizens how to properly care for and protect animals.

A project that was started to protect animals

MP Victor Hugo Romo Guerra, who sponsors the initiative, said the institute would be the only one in all of Latin America that would present a holistic policy for animals. That is why one would like to gather experts on the topic there who generate both short-term and long-term proposals.

This project was set up together with various animal welfare organizations, such as:

  • Animal press
  • Great ape project
  • Pro-dog
  • Citizens’ Association for Animal Welfare

It also worked with various agencies such as the Environment, Health, Public Safety and the Secretariat for Environmental Protection.

The initiative was also accompanied at the gathering by activists who supported it along with more than a dozen dogs, who are ultimately the ones who will benefit most from the establishment of the institute.

Initiative against violence and exploitation of animals in Mexico City

Proponents of the institute point out that animals have a right to a dignified life and hope that establishing it will reverse the violence that pets are often subjected to. It is also about animals that are exploited economically, for example in dog fights.

Therefore, one would like to create opportunities for citizens to report the abuse that these innocent animals suffer.

Mexico belongs to a particularly perverse club: the country is one of those where animals are most abused. It shares this podium position with western countries such as Greece, Spain and Venezuela.

According to the activists, animals in Mexico are subjected to various forms of abuse. This includes:

  • Blows
  • suspension
  • Poor diet and other negligence in daily maintenance.

In order to achieve a change in this culture, one has to teach people from childhood to respect animals.

The initiative to set up an animal care institute has a good chance of gaining approval from the current government. If this succeeds, she would also receive a budget of ten million pesos (about 500,000 euros).

If you manage to found this institute , the animals in Mexico City have another reason to celebrate, because the public veterinary clinic was only recently inaugurated. While these living beings do not have a voice or vote, they deserve good treatment and respect for their rights.

It would be great if such initiatives could spread to all places where animals are abused due to human actions, be they consciously or unconsciously.
